Impact

Sustainability

Building for today without borrowing from tomorrow — sustainability embedded at every level of our operations, design and culture.

Sustainability

Our Commitment

Sustainability is not an add-on. It is the foundation.

At Puerto Fantasía Group, environmental responsibility is not a compliance checkbox. It is a core design principle embedded in every decision — from the choice of construction materials to the design of water systems, from the sourcing of food and beverage to the calculation of our carbon footprint across operations.

We believe that destinations of the future must be built with the planet in mind from day one. Our flagship Cancún resort is designed to be one of the most sustainable large-scale entertainment developments in Latin America, integrating renewable energy, closed-loop water systems, biodiversity protection, zero-waste operations and sustainable supply chains from the ground up.

As proud signatories of the UN Global Compact, we are committed to upholding its Ten Principles on human rights, labour standards, environmental responsibility and anti-corruption — and reporting our progress annually through a Communication on Progress (CoP).

UN Sustainable Development Goals

Our SDG Commitments

We have aligned our operations, investments and CSR programmes with eight of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

SDG 7 Affordable & Clean Energy SDG 6 Clean Water SDG 13 Climate Action SDG 12 Responsible Consumption SDG 8 Decent Work SDG 4 Quality Education SDG 3 Good Health SDG 17 Partnerships

Our Four Pillars

Environmental Leadership

☀️

Solar & Renewable Energy

The Cancún flagship resort features a 3.4 MWp on-site photovoltaic installation — one of the largest solar arrays integrated into a leisure destination in Latin America. This installation is designed to cover a significant share of the resort's daily operational energy consumption from day one, substantially reducing reliance on the national grid and cutting CO₂ emissions by an estimated 1,800 tonnes annually. The solar system is expandable to 6.5 MWp as resort capacity grows.

Across our European operations, we have transitioned all facilities to certified renewable electricity suppliers and are actively reducing travel-related emissions through our hybrid and electric vehicle fleet transition programme.

Water Management

Water stewardship is a core design principle for our Cancún resort, located in one of the world's most ecologically sensitive coastal regions. The resort operates on a fully closed-loop water recycling system, eliminating groundwater extraction and preventing the discharge of any treated or untreated water into the Caribbean ecosystem.

Our water park — featuring 16 pools and 32 slides — uses zero-chemical treatment technology with UV and ozone-based purification, and our grey water systems are treated on-site and reused for landscaping and non-potable applications. Target: 90% water recycling rate across all operations by 2026.

♻️

Zero Waste Operations

Puerto Fantasía Group has committed to a zero-landfill standard across all operations by 2027. Our Cancún resort integrates on-site composting infrastructure, a comprehensive guest-facing sorting and recycling system covering plastics, organics, glass, metals and hazardous waste, and a closed-loop supply chain partnership programme that minimises packaging at source.

All food and beverage outlets operate under a food waste minimisation protocol, with surplus food donated to partner community organisations. Our procurement policy explicitly excludes single-use plastics — we were plastic-straw free across all operations from 2023.

🌿

Biodiversity & Ecosystem Protection

The 140-hectare Cancún resort site is developed with an integrated biodiversity protection plan, designed in collaboration with local environmental specialists and the Yucatán state environmental authority. Native species reforestation using endemic plant varieties is integrated throughout the resort's green spaces, and a dedicated mangrove protection buffer of 2.3 km ensures the local coastal ecosystem remains undisturbed.

A resident wildlife monitoring programme tracks local bird populations, reptiles and marine species adjacent to the site, with findings published annually in our sustainability report. Our construction protocols include comprehensive environmental impact management — zero pollution of surface water and zero destruction of protected habitats.
